The “Netflix For Games” giant, GameFLy, has decided to test its controllers at mobile gaming. Announced today, GameFLy plans to become a mobile game publisher for both Android and iOS games. GameFLy has set aside a stockpile of cash to help financially burdened mobile developers fund their next great project. GameFLy expects to publish its first game this summer and encourages developers to submit their application to GameDev@GameFly.com.
While I applaud them for helping developers, their next announcement has me shaking my head. GameFLy has also decided to launch its own Android app store (how many do we have now?) in hopes of becoming a one stop destination for console, PC and mobile gaming needs.
I guess I shouldn’t really complain about more choices but really… another Android App Store? GameFLy will join Amazon, Facebook, GetJar, Handango, MobiHand, etc., etc., etc. It’s great for developers to have additional markets to monetize their apps but how these markets are surviving is beyond me.
Well, there you have it, mobile games by GameFLy coming soon to an app store near you.
